Captain's Comments

As Captain it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Crondon Park Golf & Country Club website. Over the coming year you hopefully will see some cosmetic changes to this site as it evolves. One thing we will be doing is collating every members email address to be able give you information very quickly. If you do not have an email (or do not wish to receive information from the club via this way) then please make sure we are aware of it. 2011 was a challenge for last year’s Captain Neville Partridge however he coped more than admirably and I wish to place of record my thanks for his hard work throughout the year in doing so making my job a lot easier.

As you should now know you play on a 'Championship' Golf course as we held the Essex Amateur Championships in 2011, the Essex Golf Union have taken to our Club and feel it is a very good challenge for any Amateur (and professions for that matter) We are now hearing that perhaps it’s the best in Essex, that indeed is dizzy heights for a Club that has only been going for 17 years. As you have seen if you play regularly Jason and his team are now working on removing even more trees (certainly the Conifers) and this work will continue over the coming months. Some changes will be seen in the Clubhouse as well as he endeavours to get into place a decent size Trophy Cabinet.

The Committee work tirelessly throughout the year meeting once a month to go over every aspect within the Club. It's unpaid work but you can be rest assured that they all work in unison with all members interests at heart. One thing you probably don’t do enough of is look at the notice board in the changing rooms. Here you will find everything you need to know plus you are welcome to read the minutes of the last meeting - so there is no reason for you not to know what is going on , but as the above we are moving very quickly into electronic intelligence which will enable us to keep members very up to date.

We did not have the best of years with various Team events however frankly I feel this is a blip and I am looking forward to this year as we have attracted some scratch and very low handicap players. I intend to play in one of the teams (if they will have me!) and it will be great to wear the shirt (as well as the blazer). It is interesting to note that Sue Anderson and John Loye (as 3rd reserves) competed in the Bader Trophy in Portugal and won it! that perhaps shows the depth within the Club. (Well done to them!)

Being a working Captain I will be around more at the weekends (my regular swindle goes off at 9 on Saturdays) but I intend to make an effort and have a round or two with the Ladies and Seniors. Don’t forget the Pro Captains Challenge where Chris and I look forward to taking some money off you.

My charity this year will be the Bobby Moore fund for Cancer research. He was my idol when I was a lad and played in his position (left half no.6) and I thought it was fitting to do something in his memory into more research into this horrible disease.

My Vice Captain this year will be Len Willis and is already well involved within the Club and we look forward to 2012 with great expectations - but remember – don’t take it too seriously it’s only a game - have fun and 'mix in' when we have the various competitions.

I look forward to 'bumping into you' either in the Clubhouse or on the course throughout the Year – let’s make it another memorable one for the Club.
