Hello, my name is Lorna Parsons, and I am delighted to be Crondon Park Lady Captain for the forthcoming year. We are a small and friendly section. Thursday is our main golfing day and some of the ladies play on a Tuesday morning too. The flexible memberships means that we also have a few ladies who occasionally play at the weekends. There are weekly competitions, some for fun and others for handicap. A random draw is usually made for the weekly competitions which promotes mixing and integration across the ladies’ section.
We have a wide range of playing abilities and our handicaps vary from single to high figures. Beginners, old timers, ladies returning to golf and players of any ability are welcome to join us. We play a mixture of team and individual games. Our ‘special’ days, which run at various times of the year, include a Turkey Trot in December, Autumn and Spring Meetings and a Lady Captain’s Day in mid-summer.
Our section has always entered County competitions, both team and individual. We have been successful over the years, often reaching the final stages of events. This year our team reached the semi-final of the Harris Bowl Trophy, and we were runners up in the Hi-Lo Foursomes. For 2026 the section is entering teams for the Munro Foursomes, Hi-Lo Foursomes, Silver Trophy and Harris Bowl County competitions. We have also entered a team for the Daily Mail Foursomes, a national pairs event.
The ladies are invited to play in several trophy days on Saturdays with the men, including the Vice Captain’s Cup and Captain’s Day. There are also mixed events running throughout the year, including on bank holidays, when all members are invited to play, as well as Club stableford and medal competitions.
Over the winter months, ladies can join weekly coaching sessions with the assistant Professionals Sam and Sophie at the club’s driving range. These sessions, which are run on various days throughout the week, helps us by working on our short and long games, including driving, pitching and chipping. Crondon Park also has a highly recommended dedicated putting coach.
We run a bi-annual holiday open to all lady members of our section. In 2025 we enjoyed a three-day trip to the Barnham Broom Golf Course. In the past, the ladies have travelled to Kent, Suffolk, Norfolk and Dorset. This is always a great deal of fun, and nearly all the lady members come along. In 2026 a Lady Captain’s away day is planned for early summer, and details will be made available nearer the time.
This year I have chosen to support the same charity as the club’s Seniors Captain which is the Sick Children’s Trust. I hope that you will help in raising money for this worthwhile cause.
I look forward to representing Crondon Park and our lady members in the coming year.
