I first joined Crondon Park in early 2010 and it is an honour and a privilege to be the Lady Captain here ten years later.
I am looking forward to sharing my year with Club Captain, Alan and Seniors Captain, Chris and look forward to playing alongside them at the various mixed club events.
The Ladies Section runs smoothly because of the efforts of the Ladies Committee who work hard behind the scenes to make sure that our ladies enjoy both the regular golf competitions and the big day events. I am very grateful to all the committee members and especially to Di Lane who has taken on the role of Ladies Vice Captain.
This year we have once again entered teams in the County Silver Trophy, Bronze Shield and Harris Bowl competitions as well as the Munro Foursomes. I will be playing in and supporting all of our teams as well as joining my fellow Captains to support the men when they compete in their County competitions.
The Ladies are planning some more Taster Days next year as we now have five full members following the success of our first Taster event. We will be working closely with James, to set up some new coaching groups and encourage more lady members to join Crondon Park.
My Charity is Bloodwise, which I have chosen because of the recent loss of three of my friends to blood cancers.
It was established in 1960 by David and Hilda Eastwood, following the death of their daughter Susan, to Leukaemia, at the age of 6. Today 40,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancer every year and it is the UK’s third biggest cancer killer. One in 19 people will develop a blood cancer in their lifetime. Thanks to Bloodwise survival rates and treatments have greatly improved since the 1960’s but there is still a long way to go. So this year is in memory of Ian, Frances and Rhiannon.
Finally congratulations to Amanda on her successful year, I am looking forward to following in her footsteps and representing the Crondon Ladies and the club in my year as Lady Captain. Many thanks for all of your support.
